SMASH THE BAROMETER
BUT YOU CAN'T STOP THE STORM!
Do you recall a hurricane in New England some years ago before
our modern technology of predicting the paths of hurricanes? A
business man had just received an expensive barometer through the
mail. The barometer did not look quite right to him; the pointer was
way over to one side. He shook it, but still it didn't act normally.
In discuss, he boxed it up and sent it back. That afternoon about
four o'clock the wind blew and the rain came and tore up that part of
Long Island. Then the man remembered that he had plenty of warning,
but had not the sense to believe it.
There is no profit in flying mad at one who would warn you
against some physical danger. So, why become angry at one who warn us
of some spiritual danger. When the alarm clock wakes you at 6:00
a.m., you can silence it or throw it out the window, but it is still
6:00 a.m. If you ignore the alarm, you have not hurt the alarm clock.
One may do an ostrich act and bury their head in the whirl of
the world and the sands of sin and try to forget you have a soul, God
has a Son, and God has a family, but that does not mean you have
escaped dealing with these important issues of life. One simply
cannot arrest a cancer by refusing to think about it. Action,
prompt, watchful, thorough and corrective action is necessary in such
a matter.
Arguing with a barometer or with the Bible does not change the
message. A wise man will not try it. He will realize that only by
coming to the book of God and obeying its every commandment can one
expect to escape the condemnation of Jehovah.
