Q. How do you add e-mail addresses to the address book in Outlook Express...?
A. There are two ways to add an e-mail address to your address book in
Outlook Express:
- Entry from the "main screen", and
- Automatic entry from an "open message".
The following discussion will provide you with a 'step-by-step' method for each.
1. From the Main Screen:
not with a message open
- First select "Tools", then "Address Book" when the dialogue box appears. Optionally, you may click on the "Address Book Icon", which appears on the "ToolBar".
- When the "Address Book" opens, and is displayed on screen, click on "File" then "New Contact". Optionally, you may click on the "New Contact" icon (looks like an index card) on the "ToolBar", then select "New Contact" in the dialogue box.
- A blank 'record' will be displayed that will allow you to enter the data for things like: "First Name"; "Middle Name"; "Last Name"; and "E-mail Address" - just to name a few.
- Enter (at least) a first or last name and an e-mail address in the form: e-ailaddress@domain.dom.
- When the data is entered, click on "Add", then "OK".
- Finally, click the "X" in the upper right corner of the "Address" dialogue box to close it.
You will have successfully entered a new contact name and an e-mail address.Note: there are additional "Tabs" in the data entry dialogue box for entering other data about your e-mail associates. These are optional data entry fields and may, or may not, be utilized at your discretion...
2. From an Open Message
The "Easy" Method
- First, insure that you have a message 'open' from the person that you would like to add to your address book. (i.e.; you have highlighted a message that you would like to read, and have double-clicked on the 'subject' to 'open' the message)
- From the 'open' message click on "Tools" then "Add to Address Book".
- Click on "Sender" in the Dialogue Box that appears.
You're done....!
You have successfully added the person's name and e-mail address to your address book. Simple, huh...? This is the preferred method if you are in a hurry and don't want to bother entering any additional information at that time. The new record can always be 'edited' later and new data added.
