Greetings from the windswept desert, where Nature favors no man. I am a displaced Northeasterner who finds himself stranded for more than two decades in Tucson, Arizona. Fortunately, I am able to escape periodically. To while away the hot desert nights,I write essays on various subjects. I have decided to make these available to the odd Net wayfarer and links to a few of them are listed at the bottom of this page. I will change them from time to time and would appreciate any comments the reader may have.

Some information about me:

I have worked in the Financial Services Office of the University of Arizona since September 1986. I was formerly the data processing expert and Corporate Cashier for the CIGNA Healthplan in Tucson. Prior to that, I worked for 17 years in the banking industry, principally at The Bank of New York. I also worked for Westchester Federal Savings & Loan in New Rochelle, New York as the head of their Demand Deposit Administration (Checking Account Department) for their 17 branches. This S & L was bought out by a commercial bank shortly after I left.

I received my undergraduate degree in Language from Niagara University in New York State. I know German and Spanish and can at least read Flemish (or Dutch, if you will). I also have a knowledge of Classical Latin. Niagara University, by the way, is one of the most beautiful college campuses you will ever see. It is situated on Monteagle Ridge overlooking the Niagara River gorge at Devil's Hole just a couple of miles downriver of the famous falls. When I attended NU, it was primarily a men's college with about 75% male student body. Today it is more than 50% female. This development has probably improved the campus atmosphere in many ways, but the basketball program isn't what it was. Niagara University is best known for it Travel & Tourism program.

The University of Arizona is a research institution in the Pac-10 schools, most famous for its astronomy and optical sciences. It is home to the Lunar and Planetary Laboratory, the mirror casting facility, and the world-famous dendrochronology (tree-ring) laboratory. There are about 35,000 students enrolled at the U of A, which is located in Tucson, Arizona surrounded by the Rincon, Tucson, and Santa Catalina mountains and directly under the blazing sun. Not far from Tucson, and closely allied with the University, is the Kitt Peak National Observatory, home of the Kitt Peak Solar telescope. Of tourist interest in the area are Nogales, Mexico about forty miles away, and Tombstone, Arizona of OK Corral fame, about 65 miles away.

I am a financial manager and database computer programmer and I have developed several computer systems used in financial services at the University. My official appointment is as Accounting Director. As such, I head up the Cash Management, Payroll Accounting and Systems Services/Data Control sections of the University.

I like photography and camera equipment, weight-lifting, fly tying and fishing, early mornings and Cape Cod.
