15. Remove the bolt/bolt carrier assembly.
16. Rotate the extremely dirty bolt counter clockwise
90 degrees. This should allow the bolt to slide out. The bolt retaining
arm spring is very stiff. You may find it difficult to get the bolt back
on to a new bolt carrier.
17. Rotate the locking piece clockwise 180 degrees
until it springs out of the carrier.Be careful this can jump a little.
18. Remove the locking piece from the bolt carrier.
19. Remove the firing pin and firing pin spring
from the bolt carrier.
BOLT & BOLT CARRIER
Reassembly is not so easy. Follow the procedure
in reverse order with some minor changes.
ASSEMBLY (INDEX)
1. Insert the firing pin into the locking piece.
2. Place the firing pin spring over the tri fluted
end of the firing pin.
3. Insert the whole assembly, firing pin spring
first, into the bolt carrier.
4. Line up the key of the locking piece with
the slot in the bolt carrier.
5. Press down on the locking piece until you
can rotate it.
6. Rotate the locking piece 180 degrees clockwise.
7. Place the bolt over the locking piece. Looking
from the bottom of the bolt carrier, the extractor should be to the left.
8. Now the hard part. Grasp the bolt carrier
with your right hand and depress the bottom of the bolt retaining arm.
At the same time press the bolt down about .15" to .25".
9. Rotate the bolt 90 degrees clockwise or until the bottom of the bolt lines up with the bottom of the bolt carrier. The rollers should be loose at this time. If the bolt slides back on the locking piece, and the rollers are locked out, then the bolt needs to be rotated off the bolt carrier. reassemble the bolt/bolt carrier again.
10. Push the bolt/bolt carrier into the receiver
by the bolt carrier. Push the bolt carrier in until it the rollers lock
into the roller recesses.
The rest of the reassembly
is pretty simple. Just see the disassembly procedure. Remember, only disassemble
what you absolutely need to. The rear sight, cocking tube cap and trigger
group do not get that dirty. It is unecessary to disassemble these sections.
Remember to clean the roller
recesses in the trunion, just behind the bore. You can feel them with your
finger. These will be filled with carbon. The bore, bolt, bolt carrier,
trunion and magazine follower get the dirtiest with the G3 style rifle.
