SOYUZIVKA

Soyuzivka is a Ukrainian Resort in the Catskill Mountains in New York State. It is in the town of Kerhonkson. It is owned by the Ukrainian National Association, or U.N.A. Only U.N.A. members and their guests are allowed in. There are many buildings which provide lodging, most of which are named after Ukrainian cities. There is a pool, tennis courts, a concert hall, and a veranda where dances, called zabavy, take place every Saturday evening during the summer. The main times of activity are Memorial Day Weekend, Fourth of July, and Labor Day Weekend.

Soyuzivka in the Winter

Previosly, Soyuzivka was known as "A Year-Round Resort". However, it was decided last year that Soyuzivka is to close during the winter months of February, March, and April. This eliminates some weddings, as well as celebrations during such holidays as Valentine's Day. I am glad that this is limited to just three months. Voice your opinion on this matter by sending me mail.

Zabava's at Soyuzivka

Every Saturday night, there is a zabava on the giant patio. On major weekends, there is another one in the concert hall downstairs. Bands play a mixture of Ukrainian and American music, which I feel should be all Ukrainian. Anyway, everybody has a lot of fun, and they last well into the night. In case of rain, the zabava is moved into the concert hall, instead of on the open patio.

This year, Soyuzivka was closed from February 1 to April 15. I have yet to hear of the plans for next winter.
