| Just about any composite HL can
be modified to allow Discus Hand Launch. It might not be prettiest
wing but it will get you on the road to discus launching. One of
the benefits include being able to get higher launches with less effort
then your standard Javelin throw. For sport flying and folks who
didn't think they could fly HL, DHL provides a alternative to the
shoulder and arm problems. And if you really put in some effort amazing heights can
be achieved.
After seeing Phil Barnes launch I 'm convinced that the peg in the
wing tip is the way to go. The effect the peg has while flying is negligible
and is vastly out weighed by the launch height increase.
Most of the wings and fuses I have modified have been of the Logic variety
because that's what I have laying around. But any well built composite
HL could be adapted. The tail should be strong and resistance to
flutter. I flew a modified Vtail Advantage and it would seem that the
below the tail rudder designs are not necessary with an aileron
wing.
I'm not claiming to be an expert, these are just my personal observations
and are not backed up by any scientific proof. But they do fly
fairly well and launch very high!
