Framing between Spring cloud bursts, the wall and spine began to take shape and look promising! (Fig.1). Ron, Tyler and Chris wrestle the first layer of sheeting into place. (Fig.2 & 3). The next clear day, we got the second and final layer of quarter inch nailed down...just as it began to rain! No skating yet.
Done enough (if you don't mind a nail popping up and chunking your wheel), the new wall and spine are now scaring skaters every clear day available. |
After this last pic was taken, a layer of masonite was put on top off the two layers of plywood, using about 60 lbs. of screws! The masonite didn't even last a year, thanks to the Oregon rain (and a new puppy who loved to chew on the deteriorating masonite). When we resurface this summer, we will just put down a third layer of quarter inch plywood, using screws instead of f---ing with masonite again.
Approaching the wall involves alot of pushing, to keep up speed so you don't just smack face first into it. The thing will eat your s--t for sure! Seen some of the craziest flipping crashes yet on this beast. Inspired me to go ahead and post a "skate at own risk" sign! It's sent a couple of my helmet-hating skaters running for their helmets.
