Irby Christmas 2002 Letter

London 2002

Once again it's time for the biennial travelogues of Susan and Andrew.  This time, (after a minor postponement), it was a trip to London England the week of August 30-September 7.  We were fortunate to be able to stay at the home of our friends Tim, Cindy and William.  Two years previously, we spent a fantastic week in Tuscany with them. This week was just as wonderful, as we were blessed not only with spectacular attractions, but marvelous company and beautiful weather - 70 degrees and mostly sunny..  something quite contrary to my pre-conceived notion of "London Fog!"

Our hosts, Tim, William and Cindy, in front of their home. In addition to an address, each house in this part of the London suburbs has its own name. We were lucky to stay at "The Grove."

Here we are at Esher station (that's pronounced "Ee-shur"). It was the jumping off point for most of our journeys into both London and points south! The trains are quite frequent and an easy way to get around. Note the approaching train in the background.

You know we really were in England when you see a phone booth like this! (taken near Hampton Court Palace).

Recognize this venue?  It's King's Cross Station - where Harry Potter departed for Hogwart's - You know, platform 9 and 3 quarters....  we looked and looked but couldn't find it.  Guess we're Muggles...
