Whirly Bird Aviation

Welcome to the Whirly Bird Aviation home page.

On this page you will find plans for a Great looking and flying Model Autogyro called the DAG.

It has a rotor diameter of 50” and should be powered by a 32-40 cu 2 stroke

or 40-52 four stroke or electric equivalent.

If you are a competent RC flier and have never tried a Model Autogyro before

then this is the model for you!

This particular Autogyro was designed a few years ago by an Enthusiast

for the Enthusiasts with some superb examples being made all around the globe.

It has been improved upon several times and the plans which are

now available are the newest version.

It is of all built up construction, being mainly built from balsa, lite ply,

birch ply and piano wire. The only non standard part is the rotor blade mounting

plate which is constructed from 1.6mm Glass Fibre plate and is easily

obtainable through your local Hobby store.

Because of the forces involved with the 50” diameter rotor we strongly

recommend using high torque metal geared servos to control the ‘direct controlled’

head and the rudder on the DAG.

The DAG comes in 2 versions the original R1 with its simple but very

elagant lines and the new R2 version which still has the pleasing lines of the

original but with a rounded fuselage for a more ‘scale like’ look.

Basically the Choice is yours?

We suggest using the Master Airscrew gear box for the rotor axle.

The Profile Kellett Autogyro

The Profile Kellett was designed for the new autogyro pilot in mind.

Simple plank construction has been used for the profile fuselage which

allows for hard landings and is very rugged. You will amazed how

tough this autogyro is. Why not give it a go?

DAG-1 Autogyro

If you are looking for a simple to build autogyro with flowing lines of

the autogyro of the 1930s, then the R1 is for you. Built up stick construction

allows for a full fuselage but is very light. The DAG-1 Autogyro has been

built and flown world wide. You could be the next one to fly the R1.

DAG-R2 Autogyro

Next in the Whirlybird Aviation series of autogyro plans is the

DAG-R2 Autogyro. This is an upgraded plan of the R1. This design has

a rounded fuselagewith the use of formers and stringers. It was designed

for the modeler who has scratch built before and is familiar with standard

building techniques. This is a great flying model.
