Lloyd Ostendorf was my art mentor for many years. I began studying with him in my early teens, and the rock solid foundation he set me upon in art is still standing this day. He was a nationally recognized Lincoln scholar, and Civil War historian. He has written several books on Lincoln, illustrated for Treasure Chest Comics, and assisted Milton Caniff on the Steve Canyon comic strip amongst his many other accomplishments.
He recently passed away, and is now drawing Lincoln from life. I miss him very much, but am extremely happy for him.
This is a pencil sketch Lloyd did for me. It is his interpretation of Solomon Kane, a character created by Robert E Howard.
For many years, Lloyd created an editorial cartoon to celebrate Lincoln's birthday. These were published in the Journal Herald, which was a Dayton, Ohio newspaper.
