Nigerian Government Under Pressure To Review Telecoms Policy
The Nigerian government is coming under increasing pressure to review its new telecoms policy, which gives a monopoly on data and international traffic to Nitel, state-run company, and which bans private competitors from offering international services for the foreseeable future.

The new policy also increases the GSM mobile network licence fee to $100 mil, which the majority of Nigerian
operators would be unwilling to risk. The policy could affect tens of millions of dollars of investment by local and foreign companies. Internet service providers have also expressed their concern at the new policy and at the possibility of having their licences withdrawn.
