IGHouston
is not a rescue organization, but we strongly support the volunteer
organizations that help all dogs in need of new forever homes. Our
particular interest is in helping Texas Italian Greyhounds.
IGHouston hopes that this section of the site will help iggy
orphans in the greater Houston area find the loving new homes they
deserve. About 200 iggies were rescued and adopted out in Texas
alone last year, and there is no reason to assume that this number
will not increase with each passing year.

For those of
us who are owned by them, IG's are the only dog in the world
but they are not the dog for everyone. Italian Greyhounds
are very demanding of your time and attention, and can be stubborn
about house-training. If you are not familiar with the idiosyncrasies
of this unique breed, please do your research before adding one
to your family. Lilian
Barber's IG FAQ should be considered required reading. And the
IGHouston site has other links to information
outlining both the positive and negative aspects of the breed. Click
here to read the AKC standard for this wonderful companion dog.
The volunteer
organizations listed here are well acquainted with the ins and outs
of the Italian Greyhound. Each group takes in, vets, and fosters
IG's needing homes, and evaluates qualified prospective adopters,
to match the temperament of each individual dog to the home environment
of potential adopters.
You will find
links to individual descriptions and photos of Italian Greyhound
orphans in need of forever homes in the greater Houston area. This
information is provided by the separate rescue organizations. Each
of the groups operates somewhat differently, but they all serve
the same purpose of helping find the best future possible for each
iggy that enters rescue.
NOTE:
Availability of the dogs listed is subject to change at any time,
so always check with the specific, individual rescue organization
of interest for the latest information.
