The
Italian Greyhound Club of Greater Houston, Inc. is a non-profit
organization promoting the breeding of purebred Italian Greyhounds
with the goal of bringing their natural qualities to perfection.
We believe in doing all within our power to protect and advance
the interests of the breed, and to encourage sportsmanlike competition
at dog shows. The Italian Greyhound Club of Greater Houston
conducts sanctioned matches and specialty shows several times a
year under the rules of the American Kennel Club. IGCGH accepts
the standard of the breed as approved by the AKC as the only standard
of excellence by which Italian Greyhounds are to be judged.
In
addition to encouraging proper breeding practices, IGCGH
also helps support IGCA* rescue through fundraising assistance.
Several of our club members are local IG rescue volunteers.
These
small sighthounds are known as Italian Greyhounds not because of
their geographic origins more than 2,000 years ago, but rather because
of their popularity among Italian aristocrats during the Renaissance
and their frequent appearance in that period's art and literature.
IG's are superb companion dogs, and have been favored by royal families
of Europe for centuries. Italian Greyhounds combine the seemingly
contradictory traits of being regally elegant, playfully affectionate,
and whimsically impish. Although they are extraordinary athletes,
IG's thoroughly enjoy being couch-potatoes. We can't help but love
these magnificent little creatures.
We
hope that you find our web site both informative and entertaining.

(Italian Greyhound Club of America) is the national "parent"
