- To honor the 50th Anniversary of the American Indian Center's Annual Pow Wow in Chicago, this year's Pow Wow Committee invites the public to contribute to a Commemorative Feast. The Feast will be Saturday evening, November 15, 2003 for registered Pow
Wow participants at the UIC Pavilion, Chicago. You or your family's contribution can be made in memory of a person who has journeyed on. The names of those remembered will appear in the Pow Wow Program book if so desired. If you are interested in helping, please go to AIC website at www.aic-chicago.org or email aic@aic-chicago.org for further information.
- The AIC's "50 Years of Powwow" Photo Exhibit, now at the Field Museum, helps the AIC grow in many ways in Chicago. Here is networking with the Polish community. This was Polonia Today's cover story for August! http://www.poloniatoday.com/photos.htm.
- The "50 Years of Powwow" photo exhibit will also open at the Illinois State Museum Chicago Gallery at the James R. Thompson Center, Suite 2-100, 100 West Randolph Street. The Opening reception is Friday September 12 from 5:30PM to 7:30PM wich will include a presentation by the American Indian Center.

UPDATE: this week the Girls Jingle (ages 6 to 12) and Boys Fancy (ages 6 -12) have been sponsored by a family in the Chicago area that is interested in helping promote sharing culture from generation to generation! This will include a listing in the program booklet for you or your group per the dance category you sponsor. This will also include the Emcee announcing you or your group each time this dance style is on the floor for completion, at least once a day for each of the three days.
- A new book: Potawatomi Trail of Death - Indiana to Kansas, is being published by Fulton County Historical Society's Indian Awareness Center.
The book has 448 pages, soft cover, maps, George Winter pictures of Potawtomi on Trail of Death, Father Petit letters, diary of 1838 Trail of Death, John Tipton letters, muster roll, Chief Menominee, William Polke, St. Philippine Duchesne, biographies by Potawatomi families who have ancestors on Trail of Death, maps, bibliography, and index.
The book is available until Sept. 20 at a special pre-publication price of $35. After Sept. 20, the price will be $40. To order, send check including $6 shipping & handling to FCHS Indian Awareness Center, 37 E 375 N, Rochester IN 46975.
Find out the truth, authenticated with research in microfilms in National Archives, Father Petit baptismal records at Notre Dame, death records at Sugar Creek Mission, Kansas, and information from Indiana Historical Society and the artist George Winter, eye witness to Trail of Death. Three years in the making, the book was edited and written by Shirley Willard, Fulton County Historian, and Susan Campbell, Citizen Band Potawatomi. Biographies and memories were written by the following families: Abram Burnett, Theresa Slavin, Chief Menominee, Che-saw-gan, Chief Simon Pokagon, and Mas-saw - great grandmother of Jim Thorpe, World's Greatest Athlete.
