Every now-and-then, I managed to break out the sketch pad--or even better yet--the canvas, and do some artwork. I don't do it nearly as much as I enjoy it, but time is a commodity that I am short of. Photography has become my primary method of expression, since it acts as a creative device, but doesn't require as much time, or setting-up. Retirement will be nice, in that I will have more time to explore this activity.

Here are some of my favorite pieces of artwork that I still have in my possession. Most of them are usually given away, and some of you may actually own one. The magic of technology means that you can all own them, now (well, at least until you turn off your computer!)

This was inspired by a friend far away, who introduced me to a new artistic venue. You may be wondering how it was done, since I have never done anything like it before. It utilizes black sketch paper and paint pens. When this was done, I only had a white pen, so it is only black-and-white. I really am enjoying this new form of drawing that has a very dramatic effect. The picture is taken from a magazine. Thank you Katanya for the inspiration (and the materials)!

'Three Fingers'

Medium: Paint Pen on Black Sketch Paper

This is another piece done using the same technique as above, except that I used colored pens. I'm actually quite pleased with this one and that's rare. The picture was again, originally from a magazine.

'The Ice is Nice'

Medium: Paint Pen on Black Sketch Paper

Here's a much older "doodle" that I did while I was on The USS Midway (CV-41) in the Persian Gulf and in the middle of Operation Desert Storm. It was just a cartoon that I did while fooling around one day, but it's turned out to be quite a conversation piece.

'Run Saddam..the USS Midway is Coming to get YOU!'

Medium: Pen & Ink on Sketch Paper

This is a sketch I did a few years back, for a crew patch while I was in VP-26. Our crew had an 'X-Files' type theme that revolved around aliens, etc.

Medium: Colored Pencil on Sketch Paper

This is another sketch I did of a climber in Black & White. The position of this talented young woman impressed me as she led this climb up a crack in an unknown location.

I drew it from a picture that was an add in a magazine. Unfortunately, the reduced resolution isn't so friendly to the pen and ink nature of this sketch and it looks a little rough.

The 'Crack Chick'

Medium: Pen & Ink on Sketch Paper

This is another sketch I did of a climber in Black & White. It was a another picture from an add in a magazine. I believe the location to be The Shawangunks, NY.

'Hangin' Out and Hangin' On'

Medium: Pen & Ink on Sketch Paper

Again, another picture from a magazine, and perhaps my favorite drawing off all is this one. It just seems to fit me to a 'tee'.

'Man's Best'

If any of you happen to want high-res scans or printouts made, let me know. Ahhh, the magic of technology...

I'll even entertain requests from if you have any particular thing that you would like.
