Mark your calendars! The IALGJ 2009 Annual General Meeting will be held on September 11, 2009 at NOON in the New York Marriott at Brooklyn Bridge Hotel. Located just over the famous Brooklyn Bridge from lower Manhattan, the New York Marriott at Brooklyn Bridge is in the heart of what was once its very own city—Brooklyn, New York, and conveniently located near most major subway lines.
Once again, our annual meeting will be held at the same time as the Annual Career Fair and Law Conference (formerly known as Lavender Law), sponsored by the National LGBT Bar Association (formerly known as the National Gay and Lesbian Law Association).
The conference’s opening welcome celebration will be Wednesday, September 9th from 6 -8 p.m. Thursday, September 10th, will be Family Law Day and the Career Fair for law students, followed in the evening by a reception in honor of the Dan Bradley Award recipient. The substantive panels begin Friday morning, September 11th. True to the promise made to us at our last meeting, the organizers of the conference have made an effort to include our members in the panels they are presenting. As of this writing, at least seven of our members will either be speaking or moderating a substantive panel on diverse subjects—torts, domestic violence, family law, bar association organizing, and LGBTQ youth, to name a few. This is in addition to the annual hit panel, “So, You Wanna Be a Judge.” Details for the conference and links to the hotel reservation site are available at the Annual Career Fair and Law Conference site.
In addition to the Annual General Meeting, we expect to have several social events during the weekend of September 9-12, 2009. Details will be provided to IALGJ members in attendance. As always, spouses/partners will be welcome at all social events.
