Mill stack Stamp Mill Ruins Tuscarora is quite interesting. It is not deserted and has lots of life in it. The new residents love to tell stories of "Old Tuscarora." This was a swinging place in the 1870's. It had a population of over 4000 not including the many Chinese who settled here. This population of Chinese was the largest east of San Fransisco. Tuscarora sported Methodist and Catholic churches in addition to the saloons, a public school, and a post office. Over half of Elko County's 19th century silver production came from Tuscarora.
