Nevada is known for its casinos and nuclear weapons research. This site will show some of Nevada's other history including its mining and railroad history. Nevada loves to implode its old buildings and make way for new "mega" structures.
(Click the picture of the smokestack for an example of an implosion.)
Hopefully, this site will preserve a small part of Nevada's history, in pictures, before it all becomes the concrete jungle. Nevada has seventeen counties and eventually, I hope to post pictures from each county. However, only Carson City, Mineral County, Eureka County, Lincoln County and Elko County work although you get sent to a really cool graphic if you click on one of the other counties. Recently, we attended a fantastic Ghost Town Rally in Tonopah, Nevada. We saw some great sites including the Belmont Courthouse which was open! Look for those to be posted soon. On a sadder note, we heard that many of our favorite towns had either gone commercial and the ghost towns were gone or the structures are in private hands and are fenced or waiting for development. We are glad we got to the ghost towns before they all become private. This site is under construction for now and evermore so please visit often and see if you can recognize any of the places mentioned.
