PROPOSAL FOR THE ERADICATION OF
RACIAL CONFLICT IN AMERICA

QUO VADIS, FARRAKHAN?

The vociferous, rambling, defiant harangues to herded multitudes; the conjuring of virulent indignation for past victimization; the promise of a glorious unspecified "resurrection"; the proclamations of ethnic superiority and righteousness; the inciting to group hatred and confrontation; the demonizing of "them"; the clamoring for reparations to people long removed from victimhood, from people long removed from responsibility; the demands of special rights and territories; the distinctly uniformed shock troops; the personality cult; the unscrupulous alliances with truculent dictators.....and the delusion of ultimately prevailing.

They're all there, unequivocal signs of a déjà vu megalomaniacal mind.

The similarities with Adolph Hitler are undeniable, but Louis Farrakhan's growing ascendancy cannot really be explained as simple oblivion on the part of his followers. In large part it is due to the psychological effect that the manipulation of certain "hot buttons" can have on predisposed masses, making them forget the past or look the other way. "Victimhood", "slave-ancestry", "it's a Black thing", "the agony of being black in America", "Black brotherhood", "Black power", race-oriented religion, and inevitably, "us" against "them."

Germans may argue that they did not have a recent experience with mass hypnosis to warn them of the consequences of surrendering to it. Americans - all Americans - have no excuse.

One cannot but be appalled at the sight of adults responding credulously and even enthusiastically to conjurings of childish and utterly ridiculous bogeyman and ogre phantasms such as "evil forces", "the enemy (?) isn't sleeping", "bloodsuckers", "international bankers", "Zionist-controlled Media", etc. And to absurd, out of proportion threats such as "....the enemies of the honorable Minister Farrakhan have embarked on a course that is hastening the destruction of America" (!), as ranted by one Rahim Muhammad in San Diego (3/20/96), who in the same breath, revealing blind intolerance of opposing views, even descended to fratricidal rhetoric, lambasting "the poor and pitiful and envious and scared (of what?) so-called Black leaders."

Some Farrakhanian utterances may be described as absurd, ludicrous, childish, inane, etc. Others can actually be aggressive, insulting, malicious, etc. But one by Mr. Muhammad, can only be accurately described (in defiance of the dictionary) as a lulu: "America will face the wrath of God." Who can be so naïve as to reveal his/her ignorance by admitting to taking that seriously?

Whether Mr. Muhammad was naïve or ignorant in making that pronouncement is a matter of conjecture. But what is evident is how soon he forgets. Those were Saddam Hussein's famous last words - before he had to eat them.

Many, more serious, even criminal expressions of racial animosity could be analyzed here, but for the sake of brevity, only the following few are mentioned succinctly, naming their well-known spouters:

Khalid Abdul Muhammad, of Nation of Islam: slapped on the wrist with a wink by Farrakhan, for inciting to racist murder. "Every Palestinian should kill five Jews", he suggested and urged mob murder of Whites in South Africa.

Leonard Jeffries, former Dean of the Department of Black Studies at New York City College: stated that only Blacks can teach Blacks and claimed that the amount of melanin in the body is proportional to intelligence: dismissed for irrational and belligerent racism.

Sister Souljah, entertainer of sorts: after encouraging Blacks to kill Whites, defiantly stated that she knew her rights.

Ice-T, also entertainer (if inciting to killing policemen can be called entertainment): denied any intention in the lyrics of his music, but at least one "cop-killer" admitted being influenced by them.

Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf, professional basketball player: considers America, where he has made a fortune and has the freedom to say anything and to criticize anyone, an "oppressive and tyrannical" society.

Since the advent of instant global communication, such language and imagery have invariably been the mark of defeat and failure: communism, fascism, nazism and Husseinism. Instant global communication reaches even the ignorant, foolish and immature, who, feeling protected by the image of a forceful leader pounding "hot buttons", swell the ranks of a subjective cause with vague goals which, they are told, require a heroic sword to be attained. But it also reaches the knowledgeable, intelligent and mature, who, armed with mighty pens (and heroic swords too, if necessary) and clear, pragmatic, realistic objectives, eventually prevail. So, quo vadis, Farrakhan?

William Raspberry, a public policy teacher and editorialist for the Washington Post (probably included in Farrakhan's roster of "poor, pitiful, envious and scared so-called Black leaders"), perceptively asks: "....does our thinking about social problems stop with finding someone to blame for them?" And "...we need to make sure we are focusing on solutions, not merely searching for enemies." Unfortunately, it is unlikely that Farrakhan and his flock have the level of intelligence, integrity, knowledge, maturity or will required to understand that finding enemies is an easily attainable, but self-defeating quest.

"With wealth, Farrakhan will be absolutely unstoppable", said the blissfully deluded Rahim, referring to Muhammar al-Khadafy's purported offer of vast sums of Lybian money earmarked to influence American politics. But, quo vadis, Farrakhan? Exactly where and how far is he planning to go before he is inevitably stopped, with or without wealth, by his own progressively bloated egolatry and Icaristic blundering?
