APPENDIX
UPDATE for October 16, 2000:
At a new "march" called "Million Family March", this time calling for the participation of every race and religion
(Blacks, Whites, Latinos, Asians, Christians, Hindus, Muslims - his preferential constituency, etc. and even Jews - "bloodsuckers"),
Louis Farrakhan, having apparently lost countless neurons in his bout with cancer - or simply in irreversible free-fall megalomaniacal
delusion, now appears to fancy himself something in the order of Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of America, as can be inferred
from his openly subversive statements at the "march":
- The National Flag, being a worthless symbol, should be discarded.
- The National Anthem, being nothing but a glorification of war, must go.
- We are not African-American, we are "Africans in America" (confirming his separatism and his deranged contempt for Americans -
see page 3).
- Pointing to the U.S. Capitol, he inveighed against Congress with words to the effect of: ...those people are corrupt and ineffectual.
- "I'm better than all the candidates" (verbatim), he defiantly stated referring to the upcoming presidential elections, without describing
his qualifications.
- In an egregiously transparent campaign fund raiser disguised as a future "Economic Development Fund", purportedly to aid small African
enterprises here and in Africa, he shamelessly called for contributions of $1,000 per person in order to reach a goal of $10,000,000,000 for
"operating capital" to be "managed" by unnamed "top level" financial experts, of course. Having failed to obtain "unstoppable wealth" from foreign
dictators (as deludedly wished by Mr. Rahim Muhammad - see page 2), he now wants to mesmerize his gullible African-in-America
audience into giving it to him. (It would be interesting to know how many of Africa's 600,000,000 Africans could, or would, give Mr. Farrakhan $1,000 so
he could help them).
The Anti-body Syndrome may actually preclude an objective analysis of facts in
such a sensitive subject as Group Antagonism.
Given that a critique of an individual necessarily pervades this proposal, all
those who feel an affinity for, or share an identity with that person, may
subconsciously close ranks and reject outright any proposition coming from the
"common enemy", as has been the case throughout the history of human
conflict. Criticism of Louis Farrakhan by a non-Black, non-American may be like
criticism of Ruholla Khomeini by an American in Iran. Or of Saddam Hussein by
an American in Iraq. Or of Hitler by a Jew in Nazi Germany. The best that can be
expected is failure to attain the objectives of the critique. The worst is, well...
However, no social problem can be resolved unless the issues are
faced squarely. Political Correctness merely skirts the issues, not resolves
them. And Louis Farrakhan's subversiveness is one of many issues that
cannot and must not be skirted. In the land he so despises and vilifies, he has
the right to say what he chooses. But the objects of his vitriol have the right to
expose it, refute it and ask: Why? "Quo vadis?"
For these reasons it is imperative that the physical harm he has repeatedly
expressed fear of, and threatened reprisal for, never befalls him. This is an
issue that cannot be resolved by escalation of hate, bitterness and violence,
but must, and can only be resolved with a heartfelt, civilized collective
handshake between intellectually courageous ladies and gentlemen.
This barbaric polarization of races, this "us" vs. "them", this Balkanization, this
Rwandanization, these constant aggressive barrages of mutual recriminations
in America must end!
KING'S DREAM! KING'S DREAM! For the sake of a civilized, enlightened,
peaceful, dignified and happy American society, LET'S MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!
It's not a Black thing, a White thing, a Brown thing! It's a PEOPLE thing, and
YOU would understand........if you wanted to. Question is: do you?
There is hope. America is America and on August 28, the majority of its
people may understand the absurdity of endless, escalating, unwinnable
confrontation and, putting reason over instinct, remove a painful thorn from its
side, and in the process, make it again the model of civic enlightenment for the world.
Conscientious, intelligent people are self-leading, self-policing. A mature,
civilized person, when contemplating any act that may affect another, will ask:
What if everybody did it? The collective understanding and application of that
simple concept is all the "atonement" that is necessary to achieve a moral,
trusting, peaceful and respectable American society. Without hyphens.
