This page is an overview of trips and activities that Troop 42 has done or might want to do (annotated as future). Links to more detailed narrative are provide or will be provided at a future time. It is intended to serve as a tool for trip planning and an overview of trip history

Automotive - Aviation - Space
- Castle Air Force Base - off Hwy 99 - great collection of airplanes, including a B36 (future trip)
- Hiller Aviation Museum - San Carlos - fantastic info on local efforts (future trip)
- NASA - Ames Moffett Field - tour, perhaps visit Civil Air Patrol (future trip)
- Oakland - near the airport - small - good for a side trip (future trip)
- Wine Country Classics - day trip to Sears Point to see old cars close-up and racing, was $20 gate in 1999 (future)

Backpacking with Overnight Camping
- Castle Rock State Park - combine with climbing
- Henry Coe Park (Kelly or Coit Lakes)
- Skyline to the Sea
- Twin Bridges (Hwy 50) to Pyramid Peak (1999)
- John Muir Wilderness via Flroence Lake boat access, OK for youger scouts (future)
- 75 mile canoe down Owens River (3 days down), can bike back up.
Camping - Overnight
- Alcatraz - in exchange for a service project (future) - behind the scenes tour and sleep in a jail cell
- Angel Island - camp at east end in exchange for service project
- China Basin - up near Novato - secluded but close, also good for biking
- Joseph Grant Ranch - secluded group campsite, park is huge, has isolated feel
- Huddart Park
- Mt. Diablo, can also climmb at Rock City
- Pinnacles - can also hike and climb and cave (walk-through)
- Pt Reyes (Coast Campground)
- Sunset State Beach (our usual Father-Son trip location)
- Brannon Island at Rio Vista, for family water activities
Canoeing
- Burkes Canoes - Russian River (safer in fall)
Caving
- Moaning Caverns - day trip, rappel and wild tour
- Pinnacles National Monument
Climbing
- Castle Rock (State Park) - expecially Goat Rock for beginning top-roping
- Cutter Scout Reservation - has a good rock or two (future trip to rock)
- Mission Cliffs - great indooor walls system in the Mission District, S.F. (future)
- Pacific Edge @ Santa Cruz - indoor walls, discout to scout groups (future)
- Indian Rock - Berkeley
- Mt. Diablo - top roping near Rock City, Bouldering at Rock City
Cycling
- Aragon High School to Millbrae Avenue - Airport overlook
- Aragon High School to Huddart Park and back via Canada Rd.
- Bay Trail - various segments
- Flume Ride east of Lake Tahoe - spectacular scenery - (future)
- Fort Funston to Marin Headlands - approx 17 miles
- Grant Ranch - can mountian bike and also ride down fro the peak (7 mile coast) if trailer takes bikes up first
- Mt. Tamalpais - (up?) and down the old railroad grade - (future)
- Santa Cruz - on the streets
- Santa Clara Valley - flat ride on bike trails
- Marsh Trails at top of San Pablo Bay
Fish and Wildlife, Nature etc.
- Duck Club in Fairfield
- Coyote Point Museum - include in bike trip
- Fishing with campout at Del Valle reservoir or at Brannon Island (in the Delta)
- Monterey Aquarium - (future) wet-weather trip
- Underater World in S.F. (future)
Hiking
- Angel Island - hike around and to peak
- Castle Rock - use Frog Flat campground (1st come basis)
- Half Dome in a day (1999) - stay 2 nights minimum in valley floor
- Henry Coe Park - has a swimming hole (China Hole) and lakes
- Mount Diablo State Park
- Mt. St. Helena - 10 miles round trip, a grand 360 degree view including Napa Valley (future)
- Mission Peak (near Freemont), day hike up the "paved" trail and back via the dirt trail
Hydrology
- The Army Corps of Engineers Bay Model in Sausolito, make part of loop trip SF-Sausolito and back via ferry etc
Military
- Battery Chamberlain - "disappearing rifle" - in SF - overnight campout in concrete bunker
- Battery Alexander - Marin Headlands - overnight campout in concrete bunker
- Nike missile site - Fort Cronkite (GGNRA - Marin) - future trip
- Presidio of San Francisco - Fort Point - civil War fort
- U.S.S. Pamponito - submarine overnight campout in S.F.
- U.S.S. Hornet - WWII aircraft carrier, overnights also possible - get great below-decks access
Miscellaneous
- Ice Skating at a commercial rink and/or Broomball (Belmont Ice Chalet 341-4493)
- Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserves tour of the Hazel-Atlas mine, in East Bay (future) 510-635-0138
Rafting and Watersports
- Cache Creek - 1 or 2 day, 2-man rafts, special Scout package in May, see www.cachecanyon.com
- Sacramento River - 2 day float from Redding (do-it-yourself by T42 in 1982,3,4,5&6)
- South Fork American or Merced - commercial cooperative trip (reduced cost)(future), look at www.rivertrip.com for Beyond Limits Adventures and www.raftadvenutre.com for Sunshine Rafting Adventures, also www.arta.org for ARTA River Trips, and many others
- Water Park (Manteca, Raging Waters, etc.)

Service (Only) Projects
- Grave Decoration at GGNRA - San Bruno
- Samaritan House - Xmas - food sorting and bagging etc - at San Mateo County Fairgrounds
Ski-ing and Snow Camping .
- Skiing and Snowboarding at Bear Valley on Hwy 4
- Snow Camping at Lake Alpine on Hwy 4
- Snow Camping and/or Klondike Derby at Cisco Grove or Snowflower Campgrounds near I-80
- Klondike Derby with Sequoia Council at Camp Chawanakee in February (future)
- Borel Scout Weekend, stay in the Cal (Cow) Lodge near Sugarbowl
- Sugarbowl skiing and stay at Heidleman Lodge, Donner Pass (T237, Orinda CA)

Supertrips
- Havasupai Campgrounds in the Grand Canyon, good for family camping, stay in Oatman (Route 66 on the way)
- Camp Cherry Valley on Catalina Island, tent cabins
Scout Reservations
- T42 has visited the following in the last decade:
- Boulder Creek - good for short hike-in camping with campfires (Redwoods area)
- Camp Cutter - was a summer camp, now its use is being reprogrammed
- Royaneh - near Guernville - T42's traditional summer camp, nice but has no water activities except pool-related
- T42 has not visited the following in a long time, if eveer), but should:
- Chiwanake - south, in Sierras, but lower than Oljato and warmer lake (Shaver Lake)
- Noyo - up north, Redwood Empire Council, cook on wood fire, candles at night, take the Skunk Railroad to get there, only allow out-of-district scouts to camp in spring and fall (outside of Sumer Camp season) - very nice, includes lake
- Oljato - our council's camp in the Sierras - beautiful camp, boat-in, lots of water activites
- Wente
- Wolfeboro, on the North fork of the Staislaus River at elevation 5,500 ft (Mt. Diablo Silverado Council)
