Guide to T42 Gear
Revised Feb 2002

NOTE: This is a listing of our stuff so that any of our Scouts can get spare part numbers.

It is NOT a recommendation. I would not recommend the small primus lamps as their out-of-the-box quality is less than desirable - only buy them if you are willing to immediately test them for full light output and take them back to the store if they fail! Given that high-output LED headlamps are now becoming affordable, I think the days of trail lanterns may be over. Headlamps put the light wehre you need it, and serve multiple functions. Lanterns are only good in camp.

North Face Cumulus Tents

This roomy, three-season shelter comfortably "shelters three tall people and sleeps four". T42 uses it for two scouts and their gear. Vaulted, cathedral-like interior space gives good headroom. Two big bay doors for easy exits. Mesh panels in the walls and roof provide superior ventilation and visibility. Two interior mesh pockets store small items. Poles are expedition-strength aluminum with locking tips in case of severe wind or rain storms. The flysheet and floor are all seam taped for out-of-the-bag storm-proofness. The full coverage rainfly with integral vestibule protects gear from the elements. Some of T42's tents have custom matching ground-cloths (footprints) in mesh stuff sacks.

To install the fly match yellow webbing on fly to yellow webbing on tent. When using, keep the upper part of both doors zippered open and folded down to provide ventilation if at all possible, else condensation may occur inside, possibly severe.

Spare glass globes for big Coleman (and similar) lanterns. Look for "214" and "214A" in part numbers
Troop 42 has several slightly different and OLDER models (models 220K, E and F) of these Liquid Fueled lanterns. They give off a bright lite and are quite reliable. Do expect the lantern mantles to get destroyed in between trips, so alwas take spare mantles.

Use Coleman fuel.

Lubricate the leather washer occaisionally with 3-in-1

Replacement mantles for big lanterns. Part number 21A102 in Feb 2002

Pre-burn mantle with match(es) before lighting with gas.

Replacement mantles for the small Primus lanterns. This mantle has a larger hole at the bottom of the mantle and a tiny hole at the top, it is extremely difficult to pull the bottom of the mantle down to the ridges (shoulders) on the burner.

Must say "fits model 2245" amongst others.

Pre-burn mantle with match(es) before lighting with gas.
