Date: In 2000: December 17, two shifts, 3-5 pm and 6-8 pm
Trip Leader = A. Hitchings & S. DeVere
Activities: In 1998 scouts and adults organized (rearranged) boxes and pallets of canned food and related "assembly lines" in order to fill "red bags" with 20 cans each of assorted canned foods. Along with some other volunteers in each shift, a total of 770 bags were filled, and a good start in stockpiling the "assembly lines" was made for the following weekends filling. A good time was had by all. We repreated this in 1999.
Note that Samaritan House often has too many volunteers signed up for weekends - they really appreciate a good turnout on weekday afternoons and evenings.
Instructions Scouts should follow site directions (map above) to main Volunteer and Family Pick-up Desk and ask for local instructions to join with other Troop 42 scouts
Site Plan Below is at San Mateo Exposition Center (Fairgounds) Delaware Exit off Hwy 92, go to Gate H
Planning Tips: Call main phone number at 650-347-3648 (401 No. Humboldt, San Mateo, 94401) a few months before December and get their "Distribution Assistants" sign-up form by fax or mail. Then pick a day that has afternoon AND evening shifts, and put it on the calander. This will allow scouts and adults some flexibility in volunteering for one or both shifts.
