Plan:
Saturday 8th a.m. we drive up EARLY, set up camp, build snow shelters, prepare events if necessary. Competition Events are on Sunday 9th followed by Awards Ceremony. 4WD not required but use it if available, always carry chains. Return late Sunday.
Cost:
There will be a fee of $13 to cover group expenses, if you are attending one-day only (no overnight) the fee is $8. Hand in the money to Mr. Hitchings on Saturday - NOT at the gate or store.
Shelter
On the snow in tents for Saturday night or preferably in snow shelters. Tents can be used, but will be colder. There is a heated emergency-only shelter. Water is available, but not close by. There is an on-site coin-operated laundry.
Sleds
Scouts should bring saucers or plastic sleds to help transport equipment over the snow. Troop (racing) sleds should also be brought by each troop. Grand final sled race is open class, minimum 4 pullers and one rider .
Administration:
Liability Release Forms are required and need to be handed in on Saturday. An reasonably accurate advance head count is required (may also require early completion of the Superhost forms again). We will be able to get parking passes ahead of time.
Special Award
Polar Bear Patch - requires one parent participation in a pre-trip meeting, scout must receive safety training from qualified adult leader, Scout must camp overnight in the snow. the safety video(s) can be borrowed from Mr. Hitchings 650-578-0446 evgs before 9 p.m.
Equipment Check:
All troops are responsible for performing an equipment check with their Scouts prior to being accepted for this trip. Use the Check List and bring it with you
Clothing
On past trips in T42 many Scouts had problems with one or more parts of their clothing system, including boots and especially mittens and gloves. You should expect that clothing will be included in the pre-trip checkout.
Events
This year there will be two levels of competition, based on the average age of the Patrol, 15 years and over puts a Patrol in the Senior Division. Same events, just two sets of ribbons. There will be a separate Troop-based campsite inspection award, weather permitting.
