Cache Creek Rafting Trip May 4-5, 2002

This trip is a repeat of last year's successful trip, with a different Adult Leader - the plan below is very probably what we will do in 2002. This plan will be revised in due course, if necessary. The date is considered firm, as it is the only date that the vendor runs a special Scout weekend trip.
 
NOTICE: YOU ARE RAFTING AT YOUR OWN RISK!
This is a self-guided river trip. The river contains areas with swift running water and natural obstacles both above and below the surface. Be careful and pay close attention to the orientation given to all rafters before they start.

Departure
Muster at Aragon 6:45 a.m., departing 7:00 a.m. sharp !!
Restrictions
1) Minimum age is 12 without parent, 11 if scout and parent are in the same raft. No single rafters - if your partner quits you quit. !!!
2) While rafting, you must wear your life jacket properly buckled. We recommend that you wear your life jacket whenever you are in the water
3) Two to a raft is a must. No one can raft alone
4) Laced tennis shoes or other footware specifically designed for rafting are the only acceptable footware. Without proper footware you will not be allowed to raft.
What to Bring
Tennis shoes - sandals not recommended
Fast drying clothing - swimsuit, T-shirt, etc.
Suntan lotion and hat
PLASTIC ice chest - metal or styrofoam chests are not allowed
- a two-six-pack sized cooler is the lagest size allowed !!
Beverages - cans and plastic; no glass containers
Snack food - possibly salami, cheese, fruit, canned nuts
Toilet articles
Change of clothes
Dry shoes
Sleeping bag
Flashlight
Warm Jacket

Cost
$40 per scout (T42 is subsidizing part of the cost). (everyone has paid)
Location:
Cache Creek, near the town of Rumsey on Hwy 16. A commerical rafting operation run by Rick Nelson, 1963 Eagle Scout, Troop 1 San Mateo, and his wife Linda. This is a car camping trip.
Activities
Canoeing on Saturday and Sunday, inter-troop games, including obstacle course, on Saturday p.m.. This trip uses a format that Rick Nelson puts one just once a year for Boy Scouts. This will be Troop 42's first recorded raft trip on Cache Creek. Rafts are two-person.
Suggestions
Review BSA Safety Afloat requirements before the trip.
Whats Included
Rafts, campsite, breakfast and dinner, two lunches, scout games, transportation to and from river put-in and take-out.
T42 will provide tents and lanterns and any other group camping gear.
Returning Sunday
If you don't mind missing lunch, you AND you load of Scouts could leave the site about 1 pm Sunday, else you will be staying until after lunch and leaving approximately 3 pm (times are Approximate). If you need to leave early this must be approved by Mr. Hitchings in order to coordinate rides for scouts without parents on the trip.
