Evening of Friday 4th Dec (Senior Scouts only, and their
dads) Saturday 5th (other scouts and dads arrive),
returning Sunday 6th Dec
Attendance:
Fair, less than 50%
Summary:
A small gathering of senior scouts and dads had a
pleasant if cold Friday evening and overnight campout,
and were joined by the remainder of the scouts and dads
Saturday morning. The scouts did some map and compasss
work in the early afternoon. Saturday afternoon a
seven-a-side footballl game was played on the beach,
which was narrowly won by the scouts. The referree did an
exemplary job. Saturday evening a BBQ dinner was
copmpleted just before a strong warm front blew in. The
winds uprooted tents and rainflys, and dropped tree
limbs. The latter caused scouts and dads to sleepp in
their vehicles, in the interest of safety. Sunday morning
dawned clear and dry, and almost warm. The site was
cleared up, and a fine breakfast had by all, after which
we departed.

Problems:
Low scout and dad turnout due to last minute
cancellations due to illness and other causes, resulted
in excess food purchases.
Lessons Learned:
Need to use double guys at corners of dining flys, avoid
steep guy angles, use suitable guy stakes and tent
stakes, don't camp under tress that are dead or
dead-looking.
Planning Tips for Next Time:
Be extra-careful on getting the correct head count for
both evenings and days, otherwise food purchases may be a
problem.
