II Kings 22:16-17, "Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, and upon the inhabitants thereof, even all the words of the book which the king of Judah hath read: Because they have forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands; therefore my wrath shall be kindled against this place, and shall not be quenched."

Although one of the minor prophets, Zephaniah (Jehovah has concealed or Jehovah has treasured) announces the judgment of the world but contains the promise of salvation.
During the reign of Josiah a decree was made by the king to repair the breaches of the temple of the Lord. When the repairs began the lost books of the Law were found by Hilkiah the high priest.
When the Law was read before Josiah the king's heart was turned and he repented of the idolatry of his father; however, because of their disobedience, the nation of Judah would suffer.

Zephaniah 2:3, "Seek ye the LORD, all ye meek of the earth, which have wrought his judgment; seek righteousness, seek meekness: it may be ye shall be hid in the day of the LORD's anger."

Zephaniah reveals that although God does not allow evil to go unpunished He will bring salvation through His eternal mercy and grace because of His unconditional love.
God may cast off and scatter because He has been displeased but He will turn again. He will make the earth tremble but He will heal the breaches of it. He has shown His people hard things and made them drink the wine of astonishment. He has given a banner to those who fear Him so that it may be displayed because of the truth.
The book of Zephaniah reveals God as Jehovah-nissee, the Lord our Banner. Our intercessor when no man can be found to intercede for us. His arm brings salvation and His righteousness sustains us. The light of our salvation and the defender of our life. In the day of trouble He conceals us in His tabernacle. He hides us in the secret places of His tent. Though a host encamps against us, though war rises up against us we can put our confidence in Him.
