Proverbs 22:17-19, "Bow down thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thine heart unto my knowledge. For it is a pleasant thing if thou keep them within thee; they shall withal be fitted in thy lips. That thy trust may be in the LORD."

The book of Proverbs are words to live by. The fear of the Lord is repeated at least fifteen times in the thirty-one chapters of the book. To fear the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and understanding.
Attributed to the words of Solomon, the book of Proverbs is embellished with his wisdom. The only chapters not bearing his name are the final two chapters, thirty and thirty-one, although many resources believe that the name Lemuel alludes to Solomon.

Proverbs 3:5-6, "Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."

The book of Proverbs seems to have been written chiefly for instructional purposes. As we read through it's pages we see the words "My son" repeated at least twenty-three times. It is a constant reminder of a father's wisdom being imparted upon his child.
Through it's pages we are reminded of how to live a godly, righteous life in an ungodly, unrighteous world. We are given fatherly wisdom to flee youthful temptations and to depart from the lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh, and the pride of life.
May we all attain to greater wisdom than that of Solomon and come to a greater knowledge and understanding of God our Father's desire.
