Acts 17:5-6, "But the Jews which believed not, moved with envy, took unto them certain lewd fellows of the baser sort, and gathered a company, and set all the city on an uproar, and assaulted the house of Jason, and sought to bring them out to the people. And when they found them not, they drew Jason and certain brethren unto the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also."

On Paul's second missionary journey he visited the city of Thessalonica in Macedonia. While there, as was his nature, he taught in the synagogue reasoning with them the gospel of Christ. Some of them believed, however, the Jews who opposed the words of Paul sought to take him and have him brought to the rulers of the city. Not finding Paul, they took Jason and after taking money from him and several others, they let them go.

By night, the believers sent Paul and Silas to Berea fearing for their lives. While in Berea the unbelieving Jews followed them and stirred up the people there. Immediately the believers in Berea sent Paul to the sea where they escorted him safely to Athens and then to Corinth.

While in Corinth, in approximately 52 A.D., Paul penned his first letter to the church of Thessalonica.

I Thessalonians 5:23, "And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ."

The church at Thessalonica turned the world upside down with their faith. Paul knew their faith because its news had been spread far and wide; however, it came with much persecution from their countrymen.

Paul's words to the Thessalonians reminds all believers that although we are in the world we are not of the world but are sanctified unto God. That God is faithful to keep us from the day of wrath.

We are also reminded that in the world we have tribulation but we have a greater reward in heaven. There is a day coming when the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout. With the trump of God, both the living and those who are asleep in Christ, will be "caught up" together,  and forever be with the Lord.
