II Timothy 3:14-15, "But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus."

Paul's second letter to his beloved son in the faith was written in approximately 64 A.D. Winter was coming and Timothy was on Paul's heart. He desired to see him one last time and requested that he bring the items he left at Troas, his cloak, the books, and especially the parchments.
The time had come to choose who would carry on the work of the ministry in the 'apostle to the Gentiles' place. According to tradition, after Paul's death, Timothy settled in Ephesus as his sphere of labor and there found a martyr's grave in approximately 100 A.D.

II Timothy 4:1-2, "I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine."

The book of II Timothy continues to reveal the strong convictions and faith of the apostle Paul and the faith he had in his beloved son in the Lord, Timothy.
After his second appearance before emperor Nero, Paul realized that he did not have long to remain among his beloved disciples and desired very much to see Timothy one last time. The book itself has been often described as the 'passing of the torch.'
Through the words of II Timothy we are reminded that the word of God is not bound but brings eternal salvation to all who believe.
