II Peter 1:12-14, "Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth. Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance; Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me."

Peter had seen the glory of the Lord. An apostle who had witnessed His majesty. He knew the glory that awaited him and wanted to put the Church in remembrance of those things which he had seen and knew to be true.
Sometime in approximately 63 or 64 A.D. he penned his second letter to the Church then, according to tradition, Peter was crucified upside-down.

II Peter 3:8-9, "But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance."

Through the words of II Peter we are reminded that in the last days there will be false prophets among us. However, we have a sure word of prophesy given to us through the Holy Spirit. We are to look forward to the day when there will be a new heaven and new earth and we shall dwell in righteousness.
The words of this epistle remind us that we have been saved from the penalty of sin, we are being saved from the power of sin, and one day we will be saved from the presence of sin.
In this world there will be tribulation but there will be a day when God Himself will tabernacle with us and will be our God.
