John II 1:6, "And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it."

The second book of John is simply addressed to the Elect lady and her children. A message, presumed to be addressed to one of the Asian churches.
Once again John focuses on the love of the truth and obedience to the commandments of Christ which, when followed, will reveal those who teach false doctrines.

John II 1:8, "Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward."

Saying something in person rather than in writing can be more encouraging and comforting fulfilling the joy that we so desire. The second epistle of John, although short, manages to reveal this thought and desire.
John had a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and His words obviously became the revelation by which John lived his life. Jesus spoke to His disciples, "As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you: continue in my love. If you keep my commandments, you shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love. These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full. This is my commandment, That you love one another, as I have loved you," (John 15:9-12).
Through the words of II John we truly see the unconditional love of the Lord's mercy and grace revealed in his life.
