I Chronicles 9:1, "So all Israel were reckoned by genealogies; and, behold, they were written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah, who were carried away to Babylon for their transgression."

At first glance the reader might find that the intent of the book of I Chronicles is to chronicle the nation of Israel by genealogy; however, when reading we cannot help but understand the importance of scribes.

During the days of Hezekiah and Jotham, kings of Judah, all Israel we chronicled by genealogy. Among them were the heads of the household, choice and mighty men of valor, chief of the princes; however, of all these God chose one who would rule his people, whose house would be established forever. One who was the least among his brethren, the youngest of his father's house, a shepherd boy by the name of David.  Because the LORD God of Israel chose him before all the house of his father to be king over Israel for ever. He has chosen Judah to be the ruler; and of the house of Judah, the house of David's father; and among the sons of David's father He liked David to make him king over all Israel, (I Chronicles 28:4.)

The book of I Chronicles reveals David's desire to build a house for the Lord. From the time David became ruler of Israel the book chronicles his establishment of the City of David, Zion, Jerusalem, his attempt to bring the arc of the covenant of God back to the people, and his preparation for the temple of God until the time of his death.

I Chronicles 29:10-13, "Wherefore David blessed the LORD before all the congregation: and David said, Blessed be thou, LORD God of Israel our father, for ever and ever. Thine, O LORD is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O LORD, and thou art exalted as head above all. Both riches and honor come of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all. Now therefore, our God, we thank thee, and praise thy glorious name."

Through the pages of I Chronicles we see the steps that David took to make praise and worship a part of Israel's every day life. David understood praise and worship. All the days of his life he desired to dwell in the house of the Lord forever. With his very soul he blessed the Lord at all times, His praise was continuously in his mouth.

The book of I Chronicles not only reveals the love that David had for his God but also reveals his total understanding and knowledge of the Lord of Hosts who constantly lead him all the days of his life.
