Habakkuk 1:5, "Behold ye among the heathen, and regard, and wonder marvelously: for I will work a work in your days which ye will not believe, though it be told you."

From approximately 621-609 B.C. Habakkuk spoke the word of God with boldness. A faithful watchman of God who prophesied to the nation of Judah warning them of the impending captivity. However, the nation of Judah refused to believe the true prophets of God and turned to the ravings of the false prophets who prophesied peace, peace when there was no peace.

Despite the warnings of the Lord's faithful servants Judah refused to return to obeying the commandments of God and continued to bow to the gods of stone. In Approximately 605 B.C. Nebuchadnezzar of the Chaldeans began his destruction of Judah. In 586 B.C. He destroyed the temple and took the remainder of the people of Jerusalem into captivity.

Habakkuk 2:2, "And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry. Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith."

God never does anything without proclaiming His word to His people. We are not in darkness but we are in the light of His eternal power.

Those who heeded the warnings of Habakkuk, such as Daniel, Ezekiel, Ezra, and Nehemiah, lived through the days of their captivity by their faith in the God Most High and returned to Jerusalem to restore and rebuild what the Chaldeans had destroyed. The words of Habakkuk have been sounded by believers for over two thousand years, "The just shall live by his faith," and by faith they are justified in God.

Through the words of Habakkuk we see God as Elelyon, The God Most High. All heaven is His throne and the earth is His footstool and He rules in the kingdom of men. He judges among them and chooses whomsoever He will. His laws were set in the earth by His servants the prophets. His dominion is everlasting and His kingdom is from generation to generation which shall not be destroyed. He is a living God, steadfast forever.
