Deuteronomy 28:41-46, "Thou shalt beget sons and daughters, but thou shalt not enjoy them; for they shall go into captivity. All thy trees and fruit of thy land shall the locust consume. The stranger that is within thee shall get up above thee very high; and thou shalt come down very low. He shall lend to thee, and thou shalt not lend to him: he shall be the head, and thou shalt be the tail.  Moreover all these curses shall come upon thee, and shall pursue thee, and overtake thee, till thou be destroyed; because thou hearkenedst not unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which he commanded thee: And they shall be upon thee for a sign and for a wonder, and upon thy seed for ever."

When Joshua lead the nation of Israel into the promised land God had them pass between a mountain gap. Upon one mountain stood a herald who proclaimed all the blessings of the Law. Upon the other mountain stood a herald who proclaimed all the curses of the Law. Shortly after the death of Joshua Israel forgot all that God had spoken in their ears and began to turn to other gods.

For over eight-hundred years the Lord their God chastised and corrected the nation of Israel time and time again until He could no longer tolerate their disobedience. Sending His servants, the prophets, He  warned them to repent and return or they would be removed into captivity far from the land of promise.

Isaiah 39:5-7, "Then said Isaiah to Hezekiah, Hear the word of the LORD of hosts: Behold, the days come, that all that is in thine house, and that which thy fathers have laid up in store until this day, shall be carried to Babylon: nothing shall be left, saith the LORD. And of thy sons that shall issue from thee, which thou shalt beget, shall they take away; and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon."

In 536 B.C. Nebuchadnezzar entered the city of Jerusalem and took all the princes of Judah and some of the vessels of the Temple to Babylon. Daniel was among those taken captive. The book of Daniel brings us into the captivity which God had warned the nation of Israel about.

Divided into two parts, Daniel is a book which is filled with the history of his captivity, chapters 1-6. Chapters 7-12 are the visions of God concerning the nation of Israel and what will occur up to the end of days.

The book of Daniel reveals a faithful servant of the living God in a time of adversity and distress. Because of his faithfulness, God extended His favor to Daniel all the days of his captivity.
