Acts 2:46-47, "And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, Praising God, and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved."

The book of Acts is the sole History book of the New Testament Church. Though the gospels could be classified as history, they occur under the covenant of the law, before the beginning of the church age and covenant of grace. While the Gospels present Christ’s teachings, the book of Acts shows the dramatic result of His teachings in the lives of the apostles, as they put his commandments into practice.

Beginning with the birth of the Church and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost, this book follows the "acts" of the apostles, or rather the "acts" of the Holy Spirit working through them, as they obey Christ’s command to spread the good news of salvation throughout all the world.

Through twelve men the church began to grow and the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved. Acts 5:42, "And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ."

Acts 4:33, "And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all."

Before the Lord ascended into heaven he gave his apostles these instructions; to preach repentance and the remission of sins in His name among all nations beginning at Jerusalem, and to remain in Jerusalem until they were endued with power from on high.

The message His disciples brought was the message of grace. They had lived under the law and were subjects to the law, now they had a freedom they had never known, grace. God's grace that came through the atoning blood of Jesus Christ.

The Acts of the apostles is a book that not only records the history of the early church but also reveals the power of grace as it moved from Jerusalem to all nations.
