Dr. Harvey H. Kaiser


RESUME


Harvey H. Kaiser is the President and founder of Harvey H. Kaiser Associates, Inc. (HHK), a consulting firm providing services in architecture, urban planning, and facilities asset management. Dr. Kaiser is a widely recognized expert in the fields of strategic facilities planning, facilities management, master planning, and architectural projects. He is regularly retained for guidance on strategic facilities planning, master planning, capital planning, facilities management organizational studies, building feasibility and programming studies, and facilities asset management assessments.

Prior to founding Harvey H. Kaiser Associates, Inc. in 1995, Dr. Kaiser served for more than 25 years as a higher education administrator and faculty member at Syracuse University, including responsibilities as Senior Vice President and the University Architect, and as Associate Professor in the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs.

Dr. Kaiser's core work is to define short- and long-term strategies to manage facilities assets, linking strategic planning and master plans and financial capacity. His consulting engagements include government agencies, colleges and universities, health care systems, foundations, and corporations in the U.S and abroad. Among his international activities, Dr. Kaiser has provided consulting services on organizational facilities strategies, capital asset management, and master planning to public and private clients in Canada, Israel, Hong Kong, People¹s Republic of China, Japan, and India. He is also a consulting architect on historic preservation and is experienced in public sector planning and development, serving as the Project Director for the Onondaga County (NY) Convention Center War Memorial Complex (1998-1992).

Dr. Kaiser's research and publications, including 15 books, more than 50 articles, and many speaking engagements on facilities management, higher education administration, urban planning, and historic architectural preservation place him as a leader in those fields. He has published and presented seminal material on urban planning, facilities management, campus master planning for the American Institute of Architects (AIA), National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO), the Association of Physical Plant Administrators (APPA), and the Society for College and University Planners (SCUP). He received the APPA Rex O. Dillow Award twice for distinguished publications. Publications on integrating assessments on existing facilities conditions with organizational strategic goals and programmatic missions link facilities operating strategy and financial capacity. His books on historic preservation in the natural setting, Great Camps of the Adirondacks, Landmarks in the Landscape, and National Park Architecture Sourcebook , are considered standard references.

Dr. Kaiser received a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, a Master of Architecture from Syracuse University, and a Ph. D. in Social Science from Syracuse University. He received six advanced study fellowships, including Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, American Scandinavian Foundation, New York State Council on the Arts, National Endowment for the Arts (2), and the Graham Foundation for Advanced Study in the Fine Arts. Dr. Kaiser is a registered architect and holds a certificate from the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards.

Public and community service include: White House appointment to the Fisk University Board of Advisors; US Secretary of the Navy Facilities Management Panel; New York State Gubernatorial appointments to the Board of Professional Medical Conduct, the Lieutenant Governor's Quality Communities Task Force, and Committee on the Adirondacks; and serving as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Sage Colleges (Chair, 1997-99), Onondaga Historical Association, Everson Museum of Art, Lake Placid Center for the Arts, Landmarks Association of Central New York, Syracuse Stage Theater Corporation; and University Hill Corporation.
