A DS2406ฎ can switch a logic device. The device is an SN7437 from TI www.ti.com to do so, connect the output lead to the input pin of the gate, and attach a one-kiloohm resistor to the VCC pin. Attach the output of the gate to a display device, an LED will work, just follow established methods for attaching the device. To turn it on, use any of the DS9097 devices, and an appropriate cable. Or as I do use a DS9490R and that same appropriate cable.

A DS2406ฎ can also switch another logic device called a flip-flop, this is an SN7472, again from TI www.ti.com (assuming that TI has not discontinued the device!). To do so, connect the output lead to the input lead of the gate, another SN7437, and then connect the output lead of the gate, into the pinlabeled, J1, also follow the above rules for connecting the switch to the gate input lead. Repeat for the pin labeled K1. The function table listed for the SN7472 is correct, given that they had something of a sort in mind, given the time period when the original device was created. Both switches need to be in the closed position for any activity on the flip-flop to occur. Leaving one open, and one closed, causes it to track to the one that is closed. In general the function table can be implemented using this setup. As far as applications go, there aren’t any outside of a workplace.

One such application exists, that of using the above circuit to feed a LAN Access Unit Interface Dual Driver/Receiver, which is an SN75ALS085, again from TI www.ti.com, you would then use the outputs of the Flip-Flop to manage the input leads, control, and data of the transmitter arrangement, the output would be directly connected to the AUI interface. At the other end the receiver would be connected to something that would count, and display the number of transitions, probably oneof the counter chips from the company, and an appropriate display device.

Obviously this does not stress the complete list ofapplications for the DS2406ฎ, by no means at all. It simply displays my methodsof designing such device applications to date.

(This page is essentially a temporary description ofmy efforts.)
