Jeptha T. Powell
Mr Meptha T. Powell, one of the oldest citizens of our county, died at his home five and a half miles east of Rolla, Friday, March 14, 1924. He was in the 82nd year of his age.
The deceased was born in Kentucky August 10 1842. He united in marriage with Miss Julia Allen, of Adair KY, at the close of the Civil War, and shortly aftgerwards they came to Phelps County, Mo. Ten children were born to this union, all of whom with their mother survive. They are; Will Powell, Mrs Sallie Brown and Miss Anna Powell, of Phelps County; Clifford Powell, of Georgetown, Ill; Alvon A., of Oglesby, Okla; N A of Chillicothe, Mo; Arthur, of Fortesaque, Mo., Miss Eulalie, of Sullivan, Mo., J K of Bakersfield, Mo.; and R E Powell of Springfield Mo.
The sire of the splendid family never sought public office, but he always took a great intrest in public affairs. He was held in highest regard by all of his neighbors, and a large circle of friends. He was honest and conscientious in all fo his dealings with his fellow men. His hope was in his maker and it was a lovely following of the Baptist faith.
Funeral Servies were conducted by Rev. J G Barnes of Rolla Baptist Church, Sunday after-noon, and internment took place at theWishon Graveyard.
The death of this venerable
old gentleman is mourned by a large circle of friends.
