I am looking for a rear differential for my '68 Firebird.
I need something to handle the 455 I'm building.
My plan is to find an 8.5" rear from a 2nd gen and swap out the parts from
a Pontiac 8.2" to get the bearing retainer plate type axles and weld on
the right spring mounts for a 1st gen. Or, get an 8.5" rear from
a mid 70's A-body and weld on the spring mounts. I change my mind
daily on what gear ratio I want, either 3.42 or 3.73.
If anyone wants to supply me with dimensional data for different rear-ends, I will make a table for comparison.
