Dear Can Am Owner,

This registry form is a new one that contains trim level (interior) information along with data plate information on the back.  It also contains additional information on the front.  The early registry forms did not have this information on the back.

With the years passing on, it has become harder and harder to find NOS and good used parts.  Items such as quarter panels, bumper rub strips, wheel lip moldings and dashes are always in high demand.  To my knowledge, no one is reproducing any of those items at this point except for the quarter panels.  I have been told by both manufacturers that they are a brake bend part (hand formed), not machine stamped.  Stencil and Stripes is reproducing the stripe kit for the car and it looks very good. Call me if you need their phone number or address.  Several companies are offering weatherstripping and there might even be some GM material left around.  Get with a good GM dealer and he can put a national search on for some of the items if you or him can come up with a part number.  Happy hunting.  If you come across something that you don't need like sheet metal, trim, emblems, etc., let me know and I can pass it along to the other Can Am owners.

Several of the rubber rear spoiler Can Ams are starting to surface.  If you have one of these spoilers on your car, let me know what your VIN# and build date are.  I am trying to get a period of time together for when the rubber spoiler cars were built.

I have seen quite a few cars that are loaded from the factory.  To date, the most options I have seen on one car is 39, according to the build sheet.  The lowest optioned car I have seen to date has only 5 options listed on the window sticker.  The 5 options are as follows: 1) Rally RTS Handling Pkg (GR70X15WL), 2) Front Seat Console, 3) Radio Accomodation Pkg, 4) Stow-Away Spare Tire, 5) Can Am Option Pkg.  Some of the seldom seen options like Trailer Light Cable - 5 Wire, Engine Block Heater, Pedal Trim Pkg, RH Visor Vanity Mirror, Cast Aluminum Wheels and Super Lift Shock Absorbers - Rear Only are showing up on the build sheets as well. By the time you throw in the different interior color combinations and the multiple option combinations, there might not be too many (if any) Can Ams out there the same.

I thought I would go into a few of the options listed to help clear up some questions on the registry form.  The RTS (Radial Tuned Suspension) is not the same as the Firm Ride Package listed on the option sheet.   The Firm Ride Package will be listed on your build sheet as a separate option.  The Lamp Group option consisted of an ash tray light and a trunk light.  The Dome Reading Lamp option was an upgrade over the standard dome light.  The Custom Sport Steering Wheel had the large black centered horn button with the 3 metal spokes going out to a black cushioned rim.  The Luxury Cushion  Steering Wheel was more of the standard style Pontiac steering wheel used throughout the years.  It has 3 spokes going out to the rim with a small horn button on each spoke.

For those of you that would like to document your Can Am, you need to contact Pontiac Historic Services.  You will need to send them your VIN# along with $35.00 and they will send you the information (options, build date, etc.) back on your Can Am. Their address is:
    Pontiac Historic Services
    P.O. Box  884
    Sterling Heights,  MI   48311-0884

If you send off for your documentation, I would greatly appreciate it if you could photocopy the build sheet and send it to me for the registry, along with the registry form.  Please make note of my new address and phone number.
Thanks again and stay in touch.

Sincerely,
Verne Howard
