Dear Friends,
On March 15 we celebrated the 24th anniversary of Iglesia
Bautista El Calvario (Calvary Baptist Church) in San Ramon. We
constantly have new people in the services due to the
evangelization efforts of the church membership. There are more
souls than ever that need the gospel of our Lord Jesus. As we
look back, we see how God has opened and closed doors according
to His will, allowing us to start six churches in Costa Rica. It
is a wonderful blessing to partner with others who have also
been called by God to serve Him in missions. We serve together
with laborers from the United States, Argentina, Brazil,
Nicaragua, Panama, Dominican Republic and Costa Rica. One day we
will stand together with that multitude “of all nations, and
kindreds, and peoples, and tongues” which no man can number
and praise our blessed Savior! (Rev. 7:9)
We have a new couple from Brazil in our church. Andre Petroni is
a soccer player with the San Ramon soccer team (1st division).
He and his wife, Marieli, are aggressively reaching out to his
teammates as well as to other “futbol” teams with the gospel of
Christ. We recently received two boxes of Romans with the plan
of salvation included in a very interesting format. He has asked
for 100 of these booklets to give to the youth league players as
well as to rival teams.
The importance of your prayers was brought home to me through
the following story: Hudson Taylor, missionary to China, could
not understand why a certain interior mission station saw such
response to the gospel while other stations were struggling.
After years of service in China, he returned to England on
furlough. After a church service, a man approached Taylor and
asked him about this particular mission station in China,
stating that he communicated with the missionary stationed there
and prayed fervently for the Chinese by name. Thus Taylor
understood why this station saw such fruit for their labors
while others spent years with no visible results. In Paul’s
words to the Colossians we ask that you “Pray for us that God
would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of
Christ.” (Col. 4:3) Also thank you for your financial
support which permits us to preach the gospel in Costa Rica.
Working together for Christ,
Russ and Lynn Turner
