"O Lord, how manifold are thy
works! In wisdom hast thou made them all: the earth is
full of thy riches." (Psalm 105:24)
As we have been traveling to visit churches during this
furlough from Perú, we have been awed with the mighty
works of God in His creation! From the Pacific Ocean of
southern California, to the desert and mountains of
Arizona, to the beauty of southern Alabama, to the
Atlantic Ocean of south Florida and the heavy rains of
tropical storms, to the gorgeous autumn scenery of New
England and New York state, to majestic Niagara Falls,
to the flat lands of the Midwest, to freezing,
snow-covered South Dakota, to the Rocky Mountains of
Colorado and New Mexico...it has been such an awesome
experience for us as our family has traveled together
this furlough! We are grateful to the Lord for the
privilege of seeing so many of His great wonders in this
blessed country of ours!
Since August 4th we have been on our big trip out East
to visit churches and present the work that God is doing
in the land of Perú. It's been a time of renewing
fellowship with friends in the churches, making new
friends, and of course, visiting with family along the
way. We are thankful for safety, good health, and no car
problems! It has been a blessing to be in these churches
and we are grateful for the wonderful hospitality that
has been extended to us along the way.
On our last furlough, Sarah and David could not travel
with us because of work and school. This time, they
asked if they could travel with us "like in the good old
times", and of course, we were glad to have them along!
The last week of August, while we were in Miami, FL
David developed a bad infection in a wisdom tooth. It
was treated with antibiotic, but it and another wisdom
tooth will have to be pulled, so he flew home to go back
to work and save the money for this. There were other
considerations, too...the teens at church really missed
him being with them, and he and his special young lady
were missing each other very much! We are missing David,
but thankful that he had his job to go back to.
During this trip we have visited some Bible colleges
along the way so that Dan and Tim could learn about
them. At Faith Baptist Bible College (in Ankeny, Iowa)
Sarah and the boys got to visit classes for two days,
and they enjoyed that. They also got to meet some
friends there, including an MK from Perú. Pray for our
children as they look to the Lord for their
futures...Sarah is 25 and would like to find work
fulltime in photography when we return to Calif.; David
is 23 and works, and plans to study some courses at our
local community college in the spring cycle; and Daniel,
19, and Tim, 17 are finishing high school and not yet
decided on what to do after that.
In our last letter, we mentioned that some medical
problems were being taken care of. We all came out
pretty well with our physicals. Alethia had both
cataract and skin cancer surgery, and both were
successful. We'll have followup visits before returning
to Perú.
We now have a website, thanks to Don Tarvin, the dad of
Rachel Tarvin, one of our newest BMM missionaries in
Perú. We are still learning about it, and will be adding
to it so bookmark us and keep checking back.
Prayer Requests
1) For our children as they make decisions about the
future. We are thankful that they all love the Lord and
are serving Him in their lives.
2) For continued safety as we travel.
3) For the Bible college in Trujillo, Perú. There are
about 80 students this year. Some need work to pay their
expenses; pray for wisdom and strength for the
professors as they teach and work with the students.,
and for administrators in decision-making.
4) For us as we continue our time of furlough...we are
working at setting up more meetings in churches, and
need to raise about $900 more in monthly support. Our
heart's desire is to return to our ministry in Perú as
soon as possible!
Serving the Savior,
