Dear Partners in Prayer,

“Being enriched in every thing to all bountifulness, which causeth through us thanksgiving to God" (2 Corinthians 9:11). God provides all that we need. We should praise Him for that and share what He provides for us with others, so that they, too, can praise the Lord.

Thank you for praying for Debbie and Joshua while they were in the United States for Debbie's visits with doctors and then as they were with other believers, family and friends. Debbie saw God's hand in everything that happened on the trip: in her visits with the doctors, in testifying of God's goodness in churches where she and Joshua attended in Ohio and Tennessee and at an open house for them in Cedarville, in spending time with both sides of our family, in meeting with friends, in being able to purchase items on special sales in stores and even in the people they met on the airplane flights back to Perú. She was able to share what the Lord has done in our lives with unsaved family members. The trip was not without difficulties, but the Lord was at work, even in the hard times. Debbie and Joshua returned Saturday evening, October 31 and were packed pretty full, as Debbie had made quite a few trips to Wal-Mart. They made their way back to Lima just fine, along with the things they worked hard to bring to Perú. Some of these included Barq's root beer that Debbie's folks had sent for Josiah, a video game Jonathan had ordered and a couple of textbooks Bruce used when he studied electrical engineering that he hopes will be of help with the radio ministry. They also brought back some new clothing and food items. The entire trip was a very special time for Debbie and Joshua and we can't say "thank you" enough for your prayers for them.

Bruce is in Cusco and has been looking for a place for us to live. He had the help of a Perúvian pastor and several missionaries during his search, resulting in the decision to rent a furnished, 5th-floor apartment in Cusco. He sent pictures via e-mail to the rest of the family to help in the decision process. The apartment is very similar to the one we had in Miraflores, when we first came to Perú. Bruce plans on returning Tuesday, November 24. Tim Whatley confirmed with us that he is planning on leaving Cusco for another trip to Lima on Monday, December 7 and we could possibly accompany him on a return trip on Thursday, December 10.

Here are some other updates and items for prayer:

  • Bruce’s aunt, Sue Maddux, continues to do well. She expects to be completing her chemotherapy treatments soon.

  • Debbie’s mom, Lois Mowrey, is scheduled to have an ultrasound on her liver the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, November 25. Please pray for her that God's will would be done and for her salvation.

  • Bruce is doing some looking for a vehicle as he is in Cusco. We believe the Lord would probably have us wait until after we move to Cusco to purchase something, but Bruce may do some more looking in Lima after he returns from his trip.

Obviously, we have a lot for which to be thankful. It has been just a little over a year since we came to Perú and the Lord has done so much for us in our coming and since that time. He provided places for us to live and helped us with our Spanish language classes. He let us meet new friends here and see some we hadn't seen for a while. He gave us peace during Debbie's recent medical issue and safety to her and Joshua as they traveled to the United States and back again. He continues to guide us and for this we are grateful.

We trust that you all are able to be thankful at this season. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and thanks again for your prayers!

Sincerely in Christ,
Bruce, Debbie, Joshua, Josiah, and Jonathan Maddux
