Greenburgh Campaign Finance Commission

ETHICS SUBCOMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION

(unanimously approved by the Commission on May 23, 2000)

To promote strong public confidence in the performance of elected town officials in their assigned responsibilities the following is recommended:

  • Establish a campaign oversight committee

The committee should consist of a nonpartisan or bipartisan panel and address ethical and financial issues arising during political campaigns.

  • Eliminate conflicts of interest

Elected officials should be required to recuse themselves under certain circumstances from voting on a contributor's application.

  • Create a level playing field for candidates

Taxpayer-financed mailings by incumbents should be reviewed.

Incumbent's name, voice, or likeness in public (taxpayer-financed) ads should be disallowed during the proscribed campaign season.
