Resident of Duncan Dies
Duncan—Mrs. Edith Margaret Grassie, who came to this district from England as a young girl, died Thursday in King’s Daughters’ Hospital.
A keen gardener, she also was an ardent golfer and had won many trophies in local competitions.
Mrs. Grassie is survived by her husband, Charles; two sons, [Vernon] Robert in Pennsylvania and Sydney in California; two daughters, Miss Evelyn Grassie in Vancouver and Miss Iris in San Francisco; one brother, James Castley of Duncan, and two sisters, Mrs. James Campbell of Duncan and Mrs. Annie Munro of Vancouver.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today from Hirst Funeral Parlor with Rev. Brian T. Page officiating. Interment will be in the Mountain View Cemetary, Somenos.

Pioneer daugher, dies in KD Hospital
Daughter of a district pioneer couple, Mrs. Edith Margaret Grassie, died in King’s Daughters’ Hospital, Thursday. Her parents were the late Henry Thomas and Eliza Castley of Sahtlam, original settlers of that district.
Mrs. Grassie came here as a small girl with her parents from Westmoreland, England. She married Charles Robert Grassie, son of Duncan pioneers, the late Robert and Margaret Grassie. Robert senior established the first blacksmith shop in this city, where the Odeon Theatre now stands. Charles Robert still carries on the blacksmith business, now removed to the Island Highway, north.
Mrs. Edith Grassie was well-known in the district as an ardent golfer, winning many trophies over the years. She was also noted as a keen gardener, especially for her flowers.
She is survived by her husband, at home; two sons, Vernon Robert, Kennett Square, Penna; Sydney Charles, Altadena, Calif.; two daughers, Iris, San Francisco, and Evelyn, Vancouver.
Also surviving are six grandchildren; one brother, James Castley, Duncan; two sisters, Mrs James Campbell, Duncan, and Mrs. Annie Munro, Vancouver.
Funeral services were held Saturday from Hirst Chapel with Rev. B. T. Page officiating.
Pallbearers were J. C. Campbell, C. H. Armour, Allan Payne, Walter Whan, W. H. Hawkes and Archie Campbell. Interment followed in Mountain View Cemetery, Somenos.
