 NEW ENGINE COMING TOGETHER

8/29/05 HURRICANE KATRINA

My house takes in 10 inches of water and were forced to stop racing for the time being. Work involves working 16 hr days a day. Everything is lost in my home and 4ft of sheetrock the house is gutted out.... clean.

All the while this is going on I meet up with Mr. Jessie Holmes from Pensacola, FL. More on this later. Fast forward now to mid November 2005.

11/14/06 NPR Midnight Madness, We load for bear and go wheels up for the 1st time ever on the new clutch

5K launch, After talking to Red at McLeod It was explained the wheelie was caused by leaving at to LOW of RPM's.

11/19/05  NEW LOW ET and MPH 10.19 @ 133.74 -Video-We try again for Friday Nights T & T session I made two passes then load because the car is scary to drive at this point because of it erratic steering.

12/01/05 I take the rear control arms off and find this

Busted up bushings  I try to have solid bushing made and its proves NOT be the way to because I can't get the arms in place and attach all the bolts. I call Granatelli and have them send a set of new lower bushings. Meanwhile I replaced the rear-end's upper bushings with spherical bushings from UPR which took time to install also. The Currie rear-end housing is really a piece of work. Nothing fits, and nothing works without major work. Then after getting everything together we attempt to get the housing in the car we find the Granatelli Arms are bent.

04/19/06 - Granatelli offered to replace the weightjackers  with a set of there billet Aluminium arms.....After installing them we yank off the Xpipe and mufflers and replace them with bullets and turn downs. Car is scaled again we find the car has lost about 100lbs.

What happens next was unreal. On the way home from the chassis shop we stop at Gulfport Drag way and attempt again to make a few passes. FFW is fast approaching I wanted to make sure we didn't have any problems.

Gulfport Disaster

We do the burn out and stage, what happens next is horrible...................Upon launch the drivers side control arm folds, twisting the rearend upward and breaks the u-joint, the bottom of the car looks as though a  bomb has gone off underneath it after the driveshaft impacts the floor. Both sides of the upper control arm boxes are pulled away from the body and the pinion yoke is broken. I contact JR Granatelli and he promptly pays for all broken parts and replaces the arms again with another set of Weight Jackers. Contact me if  anyone is interested in them. They are  "FOR SALE".

After thinking about it long and hard I've decided to make the big jump to mini tub the car part because the upper C/A mounts are destroyed. Wide Ride Racecars builds something called the S-BOX.  New upper control arm box with built-in adjustments for the stock suspension. I'm also going to install a rear coil over setup along with Strange double adjustable shocks and install a back brace on the rear housing. The lower control will come from  Kevin Slaby's Baselinesuspensions.com. I'll be going with their #3 lower control that is basically a straight chromemoly tube with heavy duty rod ends.

In April I picked up another Mustang for my son Lil' Gregory to learn the ropes on. It's a 93' Coupe, its loaded and is totally rdy for bracket racing or cruising the streets. Power & Performance built the car 3 yrs ago and its changed hands a couple of times before I bought it. The car has a 351W w/ Performer RPM heads and  matching Intake Manifold. Solid lifter cam and BBK shorties with matching H-pipe and Flowmaster Mufflers. I plan on installing a set of Flowmaster matching tailpipes. Transmission is a C-4 with reverse manual valvebody and a transbrake. Converter is a 10" unit that goes to 3000RPM on the MSD Digital 6's 2step limiter. We installed a B&M Hammer shifter along with a new Summit Mini starter.

Best ET to date is a 12.19@111

We soon hope to install a set of ET Drags and tweak the shocks for our first 11sec time slip. WTG Gregory!

08/01/06-  I picked up the new engine from Clint but unable to dyno the engine due to the Kooks headers not fitting the Superflow 901 dyno. I located a another engine builder closer to home and found Tim's Engines in near by Denham Springs, La.  But before we had a chance to drop it off to them we got ahold of a new intake. Back in Jan 06 I found an ad for a TunnelRam well after 6+months I managed to pick it up.

Patrick at Pro Systems has already been contacted for the dual carbs (780-800CFM range) but the installation of this piece will be at a later date. It is gorgeous though....... here's another picture we took with it sitting on top the new engine.

I'm looking at different hoods and hoodscoops to determine what will be my best options but for now the engine will be dyno'd as is with the XSRcylinderheads.com Super Victor intake and Bigs Dominator.
