Sixteen enormous blessings

lying in bed listening to the rain
on the first night of the rainy season

getting laid, nine hours of sleep,
all kinds of eucalyptus trees, fresh coffee beans

a decline in the price of avacados,
the privilege of erect posture,
the invention of the xerox machine

skillful evasion of all varieties
of social commitment, the clap, jury duty,
automobile ownership and hepatitis

encountering a viola da gambist
whose finesse on the instrument
exceeds that of a sinking rowboat

motorcycles, the joys of samadhi,
my everyday mind
