Barry Katz, M.D. graduated cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia in June 1989. During his college years, he participated in research in spinal cord regeneration.

Dr. Katz graduated from medical school at Northwestern University in Chicago in 1993. While in medical school, he participated in research on brain tumors and angiogenesis.

Following medical school, Dr. Katz completed a neurosurgical residency at Northwestern University, He had the opportunity of working under Dr. Hunt Batjer, the chairman, on his intracranial surgery skills and Dr. Stephen Ondra on reconstructive spine surgery. He became proficient in anterior and posterior spinal fusions.

Dr. Katz completed his residency in June 1999 and joined Goldsboro Neurological Surgery in August 1999. He is interested in degenerative and reconstructive spine surgery as well as general neurosurgery.

Dr. Katz has also adopted the outpatient spine surgery program at Wayne Memorial Hospital where most decompressive spine procedures are now performed as outpatient cases.

Dr. Katz is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the American Medical Association and is board eligible in Neurosurgery. He is married and enjoys traveling, golf and tennis.
