MEMORY

By James L. Thornton

This Is To Let Us Know That Whatever We Do In This Life We Take With Us Into Eternity.

Luke 16:25. "But Abraham Said, Son Remember That In Thy Lifetime Receivedst Thy Good Things, And Likewise Lazarus Evil Things, And Now He Is Comforted, And Thou Art Tormented."

"Don’t Write There!" Said A Little Boy To Another Youth Who Was Inscribing His Initials On A Mirror With A Diamond. "Why Not?" The Youth Asked. "Because You Can’t Rub It Out," Answered The Boy.

There Is No Escape From Memory.

Memory == The Power Of The Mind To Retain Knowledge:
The Capacity For Storing Information:
Memory Helps Us Review The Events Of Yesterday And By-Gone Years.
Without Memory, There Would Be No Reasoning.
Without Memory, We Wouldn’t Know Our A, B, Cs.
Without Memory, There Would Be No Social Actions.

How Does It Work? Wrinkles On The Brain?

It Records Every Event That We See, Hear, Smell, Feel, Taste,
And Every Other Action Or Transaction We Experience.

Some Say It Is Like A Giant Art Gallery Where The Brain Paints Its Vivid Pictures.

Some People Seem To Be Able To Remember Better Than Others.

Sometimes There Are Things Which Happen That Causes Us To Recall A Past Event.

A Person Who Has Done Some Evil Deed Cannot, Or Is Not Allowed To Forget It. It Even Penetrates His Dreams.

Even If This World Should Not Be The Scene Of The Discovery, Then Another Will,

If These Sins Have Not Been Repented Of, Forsaken, And Pardoned Through Christ.
There Is A Resurrection Of Acts As Well As Of Bodies,
As They Will Be Recalled By One’s Memory.

Your Memory Never Dies.

Think What It Will Be For A Man To Sit In The Judgment Surrounded By That Ghastly Company, The Ghosts Of His Own Sins.

And As Each Forgotten Fault And Buried Badness Comes,
Silent And Sheeted, Into That Awful Society, And Sits Down There,
Beckoned By, And Recalled By The Memory.

Think Of Him Greeting Each With The Question,
"Thou Too? What! Are Ye All Here?
Hast Thou Found Me, O Mine Enemy?"

And From Each Bloodless, Spectral Lip There Tolls Out The Answer,
The Knell Of His Despairing Hopes,
"I Have Found Thee: Because Thou Hast Sold Thyself To Work Evil In The Sight Of The Lord." (1 Kings 21:20b)

"Son Remember.."

Memory Will Be A Scourge To The Sinner In Hell,
In Hell Memory Will Reveal Things As They Really Are.

The Sinner Will Stand In The Darkness Of Hell And View His Life Like Unto A Lighted Room,
His Misspent Hours, His Thoughtlessness,
His Folly, His Secret Sins,
They Shall Come Before Him…

The Sinner In Hell Shall Not Be Able To Forget.
Painted On The Eternal Wall, The Past Shall Reappear.

There Will Be Plenty Of Time, And The Past Shall Reappear,
Over, And Over, And Over Again.
Nothing Shall Change The Original Record.

Sometimes Now It Is Unclear, But Then,
The Record Shall Unfold In Our Memory As It Truly Is.

Sometimes Now We Look Back At Our Past And Lightly Say,
"We Were A Little Wild, A Little Fast."
"We Sowed A Few Wild Oats."

But, Then, Quickened By Memory, Conscience Is Rectified And All Is Relived To Much Pain.

Let Us Pray That God Recreates Some Scene In Our Life For Our Benefit, Or Causes Something To Happen Which Brings To Mind Some Former Event Before They Join Us At The Judgment.

One Of The Best Examples Is The Denial Of Jesus By Simon Peter As Recorded In Mark 14:66-72, Especially Verse 72.

Mark 14:72. And the second time the cock crew. And Peter called to mind the word that Jesus said unto him, Before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice. And when he thought thereon, he wept. (KJV)

Again, The Memory Of The Father’s House Brought The Prodigal Son To His Rightful Senses. (Luke 15:17)

"Don’t Write There!" "Because You Can’t Rub It Out."

Hope This Little Thought Will Be Of Some Help To Some One.
